Ossett United 3-0 Brighouse Town
Ossett United stormed into the 3rd round of the Integro League Cup with an impressive 3-0 victory at home to local rivals Brighouse Town.
Ossett looked comfortable all throughout the game, as Brighouse rarely threatened Brett Souter in the United goal, whilst Brighouse’s keeper Jamie White was shown a red card for a last man challenge on Aaron Haswell.
Goals from James Knowles, Elliott Harrison and Aaron Haswell secured the win for United, as they progress into the next round of the cup.
Manager Wayne Benn said: “I thought it was another really positive performance, they only disappointment that I have is that we’ve not been ruthless, and we’ve not taken our chances. Had we taken those chances, we could be sat here on the back of a really, really handsome win.
“We’re starting to look a lot more solid, we are starting to create more chances, and we’re starting to become more of a type of team that we want to be.
“Nick Guest I think has had a really, really good game, it’s just unfortunate that’s he’s just not having the best of time in front of goal at the minute, individually he could have had 3 or 4 goals.”
For the second game in a row, Ossett started on the back foot, as Brighouse forced a couple of early chances at goal. However, it took until the twenty-fifth minute for a clear cut chance to arise.
Marko Basic swung in a corner to the far post, and James Knowles arrived late to smash the ball home for his first goal of the season. That goal lit a spark under United, as they continued to batter the Brighouse goal.
Nick Guest missed 3 guilt-edged chances to put the game beyond Brighouse before half time, but was unable to find his shooting boots on the pitch and put all three wide. Elliott Harrison also put one over the bar after a mazy run in midfield, as United went into half time with a 1-0 lead.
The second half started as the first ended, and eventually the pressure prevailed, as man of the match Brodie Litchfield played a lovely ball over the top for Harrison to run on to. He took it round the keeper and slotted the ball home to double the home sides lead.
5 minutes from time, Nick Guest slipped Aaron Haswell through 1-on-1 with Jamie White, and looked to go round him as was seemingly clipped by White on his way round, and after much deliberation the ref brandished a red card to the youngster, and awarded Ossett a penalty.
Nick Guest stepped up, but placed his penalty wide of the goal. It looked as if the game was heading for a 2-0 win, but in the final minute Guest broke the offside trap once more and squared it to Aaron Haswell for a simple tap in, and a place in the next round of the Integro League Cup
