Edwards Bolsters United Strike Force

08/09/2023

We are delighted to announce the signing of Striker Diego Edwards from @Official_NCFC on an initial one-month loan. Diego has trained with the Notts County first team on numerous occasions and has established himself as a regular starter for their U23 side.

Diego has been registered in time to be in contention for selection for this weekend’s FA Trophy fixture vs North Ferriby.

Edwards signed an apprenticeship contract with the club in July 2023. Academy manager Dan Leivers said: “Diego started his Notts career aged seven and returned to us after completing his scholarship at Mansfield. He’s from round the corner, in the Meadows, and has great physical attributes and finishing ability. We’re really interested to see how he progresses this season after he worked extremely hard on his development last year.”

Manager Grant Black has this to say:

First, I'd like to thank Notts County for helping us get this loan in place.

Diego is a prospect at Notts who is now at a stage where he needs the rigours and demands from non-league to help him progress to then go back and be in a position to push for a first team spot.

It's no secret we've been trying to get a striker in after losing Alex Peterson, Sam Kelly and Kelan Swales all in the same week which has really affected us. The market at the moment is something I've never seen before, financially it's been tough to get one over the line and loans from league clubs have been wanting step 3 options first so we've had to be patient.

We've created and played well in our past games except Pontefract but just not put the chances away and that's has affected us results wise. Hopefully Diego can come in and with Raffa and Zak to get us firing goals in as the chances have been there. Diego knows what we want from him and I'm confident he will make us stronger in that area of the pitch whilst the injury bench piles up. He’s keen to let Notts know he can do the business and he will be chomping at the bit to perform. He's an all-rounder who can do all parts of the game well so we can't wait to get started with him.
