Wayne Benn Takes The Helm At United
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Wayne Benn as the new manager of Ossett United FC.
Benn, 43, has a wealth of non-league managerial experience and yesterday resigned from his role at Hemsworth Miners Welfare, a club he has taken from the NCEL first division to third in the NCEL Premier.
As a player Benn started his career at Bradford City before dropping into Non-League where he played made more than 400 appearances for Bradford Park Avenue, including some alongside a 17 year old Tom Greaves, Halifax Town and Frickley Athletic amongst others.
Benn made the step into management as assistant at both Bradford Park Avenue and Guiseley before he became a manager in his own right, taking control of Hemsworth on two occasions with a spell at Goole in between.
The board are excited by the appointment of Benn, who will take a watching brief at tonight’s game before officially becoming the manager on Thursday with his first game in the dugout this Saturday, 23 November as Ossett United host Prescot Cables.
With a wealth of experience, knowledge and contacts within the game Benn deserves the opportunity to manage further up the pyramid and this is an opportunity we are delighted to offer him. At this time I am delighted to get the opportunity to manager Ossett United, a club who I have followed closely since their merger. Recognising the squad in relation the current league position I am confident that if we look ahead rather than over our shoulder we can all achieve better times. I am very keen to put a smile on the fans of the club who clearly give it tremendous support.” Benn brings with him, experienced assistant manager, Andy Hayward who has supported him for a number of campaigns.
Ossett United would like to acknowledge Hemsworth Miners Welfare for their co-operation and swift communication at a time that is obviously not easy for them. They have been nothing short of professional and the relationship between our two clubs will remain strong and intact.
